The Bishop

On April 8, 2009, Stephan Ackermann said, among other things, at a press conference on the occasion of his appointment as Bishop of Trier:

“I have enjoyed the spring sunshine a bit in front of my house the last few days; I looked at the Cathedral, which, of course, can be seen from my garden with its entire north side.

It leapt to mind ‘You’re looking at your future Cathedral – and it remains totally unimpressed. It’s sitting there calm as could be just like yesterday and day before yesterday and through how many centuries.’ That, too, had a very calming effect on me.”

Dr. Stephan Ackermann has been Bishop of Germany’s oldest diocese since April 8 (appointment by Pope Benedict XVI), 2009, with inauguration and enthronement on May 24, 2009.
